YOU, ME, THE MUSE, AND SOME LUCK ![]() OK. An obvious question. Did The Muse set me up to save these instruments? Naw. She wouldn't do that, would she? Uh-huh. I mean, she's the absolute ruling queen of irrational obsessions. And of course, she would. And could. And apparently did. She's the same Muse that floats in and out of my music life, so she'd definitely do this. ________________________________________________________ Now that we've mused about the Muse, let's get more practical. I realize most people don't "believe" in the Muse. But nearly everyone agrees, there is such a thing as Luck. And I'll just say it. In my music life, the Muse and Luck have often been nearly identical experiences. How did I get lucky enough to cross paths with these guitars? Call it luck. Call it the Muse. Call it knowing barely enough to recognize a few instruments that had a part in changing music history. Or at the very least, in elevating recording and live performances. So I have this weird job. In spite of my crazy roller coaster life. I became the keeper of a few of these instruments. Making sure they would be preserved. And not get lost in the huge shuffle of the music world. Mainly because their true histories were never released. Plus, I was there when these histories happened. To see and hear Leo Kottke play his Armadillo album with his 1961 Gibson B-45. On his first major solo tour. Soon afterwards, his early 1960s B-45 was stolen. Never recovered. And he never found another one. (more info) Straight to the point. If it were not for my luck, or The Muse, or whatever repeatedly happened, you would not have the opportunity to acquire these instruments. It's as simple as that.
